Baba Yaga – The Eyes of Horror

Concept For A Horror Game

Baba Yaga – The Eyes of Horror. The idea for the game came from reading Slavic and Russian folk tales. Intrigued by the stories of Baba Yaga and the boogeyman, I decided to construct my own ideas for a potential mobile game around the legend of Baba Yaga, but with my own spin on it of course 😉.

Ideas For A Horror Game

After my initial research, and brain storming some ideas with my teenage children, I decided that one of the key features of the Player was that they needed to have the ability to see through the eyes of the enemy. Hence the game title “Baba Yaga – The Eyes of Horror “. In the game the player has a unique ability when collecting and using Baba Yaga’s Eye Potions. The eye potions give the player the ability to see through the eyes of Baba Yaga at any given time, for a limited time – provided they have a potion to use. Although this gives the player an advantage, it also creates a problem for the player, as Baba Yaga can also tell when someone uses her potions, thus revealing the players position to her.

Game Story Line

The game begins when the main player Finn is camping in the woods with four of his friends; Eloise, Lewis, Jasper and Hermione. As any camping trip with friends is supposed to be fun and memorable (sitting around a camp fire telling scary stories and roasting marshmallows by the fire with a stick you have found for its direct purpose….um yummy roasting marshmallows). Yes! this particular camping trip starts like that…but during the darkness of the night, horror comes to Finn and his friends. Finn is awoken by the harrowing screams of his friends….then blackness.

Finn awakens in a strange place. The last thing he remembers is that he was camping in the woods with his friends….and their screams…..

With a thousand thoughts running rampart through his mind, Finn remembers the stories that his grandmother told him. The stories of a hideous creature, a witch-like creature that wanders the woods and the outskirts of smalls towns looking for opportunities to kidnap children, fatten them up and feast on their flesh to subdue its hunger. She said that some people call the creature Baba Yaga – others call it the Bogeyman!

Finn’s Grandma said that Baba Yaga has a magical house that appears out of nowhere, an old mansion that mysteriously appears in the forest one day and gone the next. Or sometimes she said its an old run-down-hut walking on chicken legs throughout the woods. But never-the-less, Finn’s Grandma said if you are in Baba Yaga’s dwellings too long, her spell takes a hold of you. You become disorientated and end up being eaten or used to make her eye potions. She said few people have ever escaped to tell the tale. But those that did escape never again ventured into the woods.

Finn now realizes where he is! He knows the only option is to save his friends, escape, and to find a way out before the spell takes hold. Otherwise, Finn and his friends will end up being the victims for Baba Yaga’s next meal or eye potion.
